Xilasin (Obat Hewan)

Characteristics of chemical properties

Xylation is an alpha2-adrenergic agonist used as a sedative and pain reliever in sheep, but its use in cats can cause emesis (vomiting). Xylation is reported to be compatible with acepromazine, buprenorphine, butorphanol, and meripidine in the same syringe. (Plummet, 2005)

Pharmacologist

Xylation is classified as a sedative/analgesic with convincing muscle relaxation. Although xylation has the same effect as morphine, it does not excite the central nervous system (CNS).

Xilation lekaden relaxes skeletal muscles through intermediate pathways. Vomiting (vomiting) is often seen in cats and occasionally in dogs with meducose xylation.

Central dopaminergic blockers (eg, phenothiazine) and alpha-blockers (yohimbine, tolazoline) prevent the emetic effect. Xylation does not cause emesis in horses, cows, sheep and goats. Xylosin inhibits thermoregulatory mechanisms. (Plummet, 2005)

Effects on the cardiovascular system include an initial increase in total peripheral resistance with an increase in blood pressure, followed by a prolonged decrease in blood pressure.

The results of bradycardia can be seen in animals with 2-3 degree heart block or other arrhythmias. Reduces cardiac output by 30%. Xialsin has been reported to potentiate the arrhythmogenic effects of adrenaline in dogs. (Plummet, 2005)

Effects of xylan on respiratory function are rarely observed clinically, but in high doses it can stress the respiratory system by reducing tidal volume and respiratory rate. Brachycephalic dogs and horses with upper airway obstruction may experience shortness of breath. (Plummet, 2005)

Xylation can also cause a decrease in blood glucose secondary to serum insulin levels in non-diabetic animals (Plumb, 2005).

Contraindications

Contraindications to this drug are adrenaline-dependent animals or animals with ventricular arrhythmias. And they have more extreme consequences in animals with cardiac dysfunction, hypotension or shock, respiratory failure, and severe liver and kidney failure.

Side effects specific to dogs include muscle tremors, bradycardia with AV block, decreased respiratory rate, and urinary output. Support for use in combination with yohimbine, atipamezole and talazolin. (Plummet, 2005)

Hevan dose

Dosage for dogs:
  1. 1.1 mg/kg IV, 1.1-2.2 mg/kg IM or subcutaneous (Pak Drugs, Rompun@-Miles in Plumbs 2005)
  2. 0.6 mg/kg IV, sedated IM (Morgan 1988, Plumb 2005)
  3. For treatment of hypoglycemia (with intravenous dextrose): 1.1 mg/kg IM (Schall 1985, Plumbs 2005)
  4. 0.5-1.0 mg/kg IV or 1-2 mg/kg IM (Davis, 1985 and Plumb, 2005)
  5. Adjunctive analgesic 0.1–1 mg/kg IM or SC, immediate use 0.1–0.5 mg/kg IM or SC (Carroll 1999 and Plumb 2005).
